Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation is run by an independently appointed Board of Trustees. It is entirely separate from the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, the Leeds University School of Medicine and the NHS in general, although it works very closely with all of these organisations.
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest in the country and St James's University Hospital is one of the largest in Europe. The General Infirmary at Leeds is the original hospital in Leeds and one of the oldest teaching hospitals in the country. The other hospitals, Leeds Dental Hospital, Seacroft and Wharfedale General, which make up the Trust, do work of equal importance in treating those requiring medical care.
The Charitable Trustees manage all the charitable funds raised for the benefit of these Leeds hospitals and its sole function is to make grants for the improvement of Trust services. These include purchase of the latest and best equipment for diagnosis and treatment, enhancement of amenities for patients and staff and support for a wide range of medical research and development.
The overall aim of the Charitable Foundation is to assist the NHS Trust by providing additional resources to aid the continual improvement in clinical performance and patient comfort. About us - More information about the Charitable Foundation
